Previously called the "Blacksmith's
Arms" and changed name somewhere between 1821 and 1823.
A J Langridge's research in 1977 mentions the "Hope" but unfortunately no
date and no further information.
Further research point this to 73 Middle Street. 149 Middle Street pre
1808 & 1899

1903 Deal Licensing Register stated the premises as an alehouse and the
pub closed around 1908 under Charrington's brewers who held onto the
property although closed as a pub until 1956 when it was finally divided
into two separate residential properties.

Valuable FREEHOLD PUBLIC HOUSES, at Sandwich, Word, Deal, Sutton,
Northbourne, and Great Mongeham, in the County of Kent,
TO BE SOLD BY AUCTION,
AT the "Three Horse Shoes," GREAT MONGEHAM, on THURSDAY, the 25th day of
JULY, 1844, (unless previously disposed of by Private Contract, of which
due notice will be given), subject to such conditions as will be then
and there produced, in several Lots.
Also a FREEHOLD PUBLIC HOUSE, called the "Hope," situate in Middle
Street, in the said parish of DEAL, with the outhouses and appurtenances
thereto belonging, now in the occupation of Mr. James Cuthbert Roberts.
The above Property forms a most desirable investment, and (if not
forthwith Sold by Private Contract), will be offered for sale in
convenient Lots, as will be expressed in future advertisements.

DEAL PROPOSED REDUCTION OF LICENCES.
At the Deal Licensing Sessions on Thursday last week, the Mayor
announced that, owing to the superfluity of licensed houses in Deal, the
following licences would be recommended to the Quarter Sessions for
extinction: The "Hope Inn," the "Maxton Arms," the "Deal Lugger," the
"Deal Cutter," and the "Sun" and
"Globe."

Saturday 6 October, 1906.
On Tuesday the Committee settled the compensation to be paid to the
owners and tenants of some of the houses, the licenses of which had been
taken away. The following figures were agreed upon:-
"Hope Inn," Deal. £949.
To the owners (Messrs. Thompson and Son, Walmer) £880.
To the Tenant. (Harry Thomas). £5.
