Southeastern Gazette, 5 July 1853.

Thursday. (Before Dr. Canham and H. Benson, Esq.)

Hannah Hobbs, the wife of Richard Hobbs, a deaf and dumb man, was charged with an assault upon her infant child, aged 18 months. Mary Town deposed to the fact that she was in the tap-room of the "King s Arms," between twelve and one o'clock on Wednesday forenoon, when the prisoner seized the child by the heels and threw it to the other end of the room, striking its head against the leg of the table. The child was rescued from its inhuman and intoxicated parent, who was given into custody. Her defence was that she was totally unconscious of what she did.

Fined 10s., costs 11s.; in default committed for twenty-one days.

South Eastern Gazette, 18 September, 1860.

RAMSGATE. Fatal Accident.

On Wednesday last an inquest was held before J. N. Mourilyan, Esq., deputy coroner for Sandwich, on the body of Edward Crofts Le Page, aged 13 years, who met with his death on the previous day, by being thrown from a horse. The deceased, it seemed, was riding a horse, the property of a Mr. Wattson, from Broadstairs to Ramsgate. He was seen to start from Broadstairs by Mr. Frodsham, jun., at about 5 o’clock on Tuesday, and appeared to be quite able to manage the horse. At about a quarter past 5, the animal was seen galloping through Dumpton, deceased holding on by the pommel of the saddle. A man named Barwell endeavoured to stop it, but could not do so. When opposite the "King’s Arms," deceased, not being able to hold on any longer, fell to the ground, his left foot being entangled in the stirrup, and he being thus dragged from ten to fifteen yards. He was picked up by a man named Samuel Potter, greengrocer, who carried him into the "Duchess of Kent." Dr. Ayers was immediately sent for, but his services were of no avail, as the lad, whose head was dreadfully cut, shortly expired, from concussion of the brain.

The jury, after a brief consultation, returned a verdict of "Accidental death."

WINDOW BREAKING.

Jeremiah O'Brien was charged with breaking a window at the “King's Arms.”

William Aliffe said: Last night, the prisoner was at my house, and was very noisy and quarrelsome, and began breaking some things. He broke a dish, a cup, and 3 panes of glass. I then went for the police, and he was taken into custody. The value of the things is 4s.—The defendant said he was unable to keep his children, and he sent them to get some bread. He did not make the row, but it was the women. He was sentenced to 10 days' imprisonment.

From the Thanet Advertiser, Friday 10 February 1939.

BARS BANNED. Greater facilities at Ramsgate hotels.

The bench also dealt with a number of minor applications.

Mr. T. Hoppit made application on behalf of the "George and Dragon," "York Tavern," "Crown Inn" and "King's Arms" for music licences to enable radio receivers to be operated.

These four granted together with similar applications made by Mr. J. H. Robinson in respect of the "Racing Greyhound," "Windmill," and "Duke of Kent.
