Latest 1719

Beach Street

Near Oak Street

Deal

According to the Deal History Society, this pub was previously called the "Fountain," 1661, and later by 1719 the "Fleece." They give the date of 1674 for the "Prince of Orange", so must have changed name between 1661 and 1674.

The Sandwich Borough Records shows Licensed Victuallers who paid for new Inn signs, 6s. 8d, and Sureties of £5 on 12th September, 1662.

If the above information is correct, the "Fountain" changed name to the "Prince of Orange" at this time in 1662, and then by 1730 to the "Fleece."
