North Star 2010

Former "North Star" kindly taken by Patricia Streater, 23 January 2010.

The North Star was situated next to the boat house along the marina in Deal. The Deal History Society gives the earliest date know as 1840 and the premises an alehouse. Steve Glover and Michael Rogers in their book "The Old Pubs of Deal and Walmer" suggest that this could have originally been known as the "Plough" but further research has shown that differently names licensee overlap each other, so I think it was a different building but probably quite close.

Once owned by Thomas Hight of Hight's brewery, this was sold just after his death in 1869. (Click here.)

The lifeboat station was right next door to the pub and opened in 1863.
