PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Barry Smith and Paul Skelton

Earliest 1882

(Name from)

Lord Wolseley

Latest 1898

(Name to)

75 Snargate Street

Dover

Formerly "Sir Garnet Wolseley" the name changed between 1879 and 1882.

Barry says that the name change was surprising as licensee Lane was an ex navy man. However, I believe this to be an error as a relative informs me he was originally from Yorkshire where he worked as a "Navvy" on the railway. An easy mistake to make. This relative also says that he was quite an illusive character.

However, in 1898 the name changed again to "Lord Roberts".
