Formerly the "White Horse," but at present I don't know when it changed name.

However, the Post Office Directory appears to have Richard Simpson as licensee to this pub in 1874, whilst in the same year there is listed a William Derby at the "White Horse." Perhaps there were two different pubs with the same name.

The pub closed on 10 August 2018.

St Lawrence Tavern in Ramsgate announces reopening date.

The "St Lawrence Tavern" in Ramsgate will reopen to punters on February 1.

The pub, in St Lawrence High Street, shut on August 12 with the departure of tenants Tony and Heidi Haywood who had been at the helm for more than 12 years.

But now Mel Stanley, who has worked at the "Red Lion" in St Peter’s for the past five years, is taking the reins of the boozer.

Mel will be joined by her best friend Malcolm Gallagher who enters the pub trade for the first time.

Mel said: “Malcolm is a painter and decorator so he is having a complete career change. For me it is a step up, I have been at the "Red Lion" for five years and was bar manager for the last three but now I am taking on a bigger pub.

“”We are going to be doing food seven days a week. We are a traditional sports bar with football but also pool and darts, and we want to get in local bands.”

Charlotte Ager, from Alexis Pubs and Bars, said the site has had a complete revamp.

The 29-year-old, who also looks after pubs including the "Hare and Hounds," said: “We have had all the flooring ripped out and converted the back room into a games area. We have taken the doors out to bring it all into one big area, so it is a bar more open and family friendly.”

The opening will feature singer Chris Daley, who recently appeared on The Voice auditions, and a charity art auction for MIND.

The opening is on February 1 from 8pm.
