Originally called the "Hope and Anchor" but changed name to "Thomas Telford" before becoming "Lester's."

Thanet Times, Tuesday 17 October 1989.

This week we review the opening of "Lesters" the new Margate pub and restaurant with a novel racing theme already proven itself a winner.

More than 200 invited guests came under starters orders last week with a celebration party to open officially Lesters, the latest Thorley Tavern. Well over £250,000 has been spent in less than 12 months, transforming the former "Thomas Telford" in Ramsgate Road, Margate, into "Lesters" - a unique meeting place which the Thorley family believe will be the jewel in their Thanet crown.

Mr. Frank Thorley, head of Thorley Taverns, named the new look premises in honour of jockey Lester Piggott, his all-time here. Frank designed "Lesters" to incorporate large front conservatories effectively doubling the floor space and creating spacious, light and airy areas for the main bar and restaurant.

In his special supplement, we take a look inside "Lesters" and meets the Thorley's and they're all important team of staff.
