Ramsgate.
Nov. 6. Two of our constables, Philpot and Jennings, swore an assault and
battery before the sitting Magistrate, Sir Thomas grey, Knt. at the Town Hall,
against William Gurr, Carpenter, Mills, Sawyer, James Wood, bricklayer, and
----- Rudd, Tailor.
It appeared that in the discharge of their duty, the constables entered the
"Duke of York" Public House, when the defendants obstructed and violently
assaulted them, they were held to answer the charge at the Quarter Sessions at
Sandwich.

TEMPORARY AUTHORITY.
On the application of Mr. J. H. Robinson the licence of the "Duke of York"
public house, Addington-street, was temporarily transferred to Thomas
James Adams, son of the deceased tenant.

Angry pub landlords in talks on beer shortage.
AS beer supplies in Thanet dry up in the strike by Whitbread-Fremlln's
draymen, the tenants of 330 public houses in east Kent are to hold a
mass meeting at the "Granville Hotel," Ramsgate, this (Tuesday)
afternoon.
The "Duke of York," in Addington Street, Ramsgate, run by Mr. Joe
Strand, had to close on Tuesday — Jubilee night — because they had
run out of draught beer.
"We are now buying where and when we can," he said.
