FIRE: The blaze broke out on the upper storeys of The Old Irish Times, formerly the Eagle.

Formerly the "Eagle".

A fire was reported to have broken out in The Old Irish Time around December 1999.

After the Eagle closed for "renovation", where as far as I am concerned, plaster was knocked off the walls behind the bar area showing bare brickwork, and for some reason the name of the pub changed, although  am being rather cynical here. I heard a story that I believe to be true. Some German tourists decided to pay the hostelry a visit and were overheard to ask the barman, "Did ve do zis, during ze war?" I'm afraid I wasn't told the answer the barman gave.

Plans for town pub to reopen:

A DOVER pub is due to reopen later this month.

The Eagle, at the junction of London Road and Tower Hamlets, had been known as the Olde Irish Times, but was closed some time ago.

Building work has been carried out, and new landlord, Mick Murphy is planning to reopen the pub as a free house and revert to calling it The Eagle.

The pub is now back as the "Eagle" again.
