Earliest 1820-

Red Lion

Latest 1820+

Egerton

I have only found the one reference to this at present, but with so many other "Red Lions" being in the area this could well refer to one of those.

The others with the same name are the "Red Lion" at Smarden, the "Red Lion" at Charing Heath, and the "Red Lion" at Lenham.

Kentish Gazette, 30 May 1820.

A serious quarrel occurred at Egerton, near Wye, on Saturday sennight, between James Coppins and William Wraith, at the "Red Lion" public-house, where they had been drinking together until a late hour. During the quarrel Coppins stabbed his opponent with a large knife above the hip-bone, and be now lies in a hopeless state. Coppins, who has a wife and four children, was apprehended the following day, and committed to St. Augustine's gaol. Wraith also has a wife and numerous family.
