Plans in for micro-pub in Bellegrove Road, Welling.

Plans for another micro-pub in Bexley have been submitted to planners at the council this week.

Bosses behind The "Hangar in the Oval," Sidcup, have put forward a scheme to renovate a shop in Bellegrove Road, Welling, into a trendy pub.

Micro-pubs are rapidly growing in popularity, none more so in Bexley which has several spread across the borough.

It would be the latest in a trend of micro-pubs in the borough, following on from the likes of the "Penny Farthing" in Crayford, The "Kentish Belle" in Bexleyheath, The "Broken Drum" in Blackfen and The "Door Hinge" in Welling – the first of its kind in the capital.

Micro-pubs have rocketed into fashion, following traditional formats of offering cask ales and sometimes ciders, and imposing rules on punters of no phones, no music and no telly.

According to planning documents published this week, many shops along Bellegrove Road are in need of modernisation.

According to the applicant: “My current micro-pub has created a community hub and I hope to replicate that. I will sell real ales, ciders, wines and snacks in an upmarket setting.

“The emphasis on providing quality, locally and nationally sourced ale in an environment that encourages conversation. The proposed décor will be stylish and sympathetic to the parade, complimenting and enhancing the high street.

“There will be no TV or gaming machines, mobile phones will be discouraged and smoking will not be permitted.”

The plans are currently being looked at by officers at the council, with no decision made yet.

Bellegrove Road was recently the scene of a large police disturbance after 200 youths reportedly caused a riot following an out-of-control party.

Riot cops stormed a party at a church hall after hundreds of teen gatecrashers showed up with weapons.
