I am told that the "George" was replaced by the "George and Dragon" around 1905, but at present I don't know whether it was on the same location, or indeed whether the two pubs overlapped. Looking at the licensee lists for both I think the two are one and the same, although a new build or extensive alterations were made about 1905.

From the Kentish Gazette, 21 July 1846.

DEATH.

Day:- July 3, Mr. J. Day, of the "George Inn," Headcorn, aged 68.

South Eastern Gazette, Tuesday 8 March 1859.

Headcorn. Accident By Burning.

On Thursday the dress of Mrs. Dean, of the "George Inn," accidentally caught fire, but owing to the prompt assistance afforded by Mr. Wakefield (who hands were severely burnt in extinguishing the flames) she escaped unhurt.

From the Maidstone Telegraph, Rochester and Chatham Gazette, 28 December 1861.

Headcorn.

On Tuesday Mr. W. Goodsell, of the "George Inn," was standing inside his front door with his gun under his arm, and while in the act of letting the hammer down on the clip, his thumb slipped off, and the gun exploded. The muzzle being held low, the shot struck the brick floor, and glanced into the face of Mr. J. Champion, of Boughton, who happen to be passing the door of the time, and one shot entered his mouth through his cheek. Mr. Champion bled considerably, but happily received no serious injury.
