Standing close to the Queen Anne pit, the pub was known as the Queen Anne in 1838, when its rateable value was £152; it was owned by Lord Francis Egerton.

The pub was in the same family’s hands for over 100 years, from 1913 to 2014. Elsie Maynard took over the license in 1973 from her mother, Annie, who had been the landlady since 1913. The pub is still known locally as "Annie's".

The pub was saved from closure in 2014 when the longstanding landlady retired. It was purchased by the current owners who are committed to preserving its character and history.

Maidstone Telegraph, Saturday 12th 7 February 1870.

Pluckley.

On Wednesday afternoon last, Coppens of Egerton, champion of Warehorne and Hamstreet, and Luckhurst, of Calehill, the "Little Court Stripling," met on the Charing Road, to decide a half-mile spin for a sovereign aside.

The latter receiving 10 yards at the start.

The stripling once more had to suffer defeat at the hands of the old veteran, who was attended and brought to the ground by his trainer, Mr. F. Turk of the "White Horse," Egerton.

The men on towing the mark was sent pegging away down the road by report of pistol. The stripling increasing his lead at every step, soon placed another 10 yards to his credit, and at the end of the first quarter of a mile, a 5 and 20 yard gap appeared between them, which the "Moke" now began rapidly to diminish, and amidst the greatest excitement, passed his man 100 yards from the tape, and literally walked in, the Stripling being quite exhausted, and very glad to give over.

The betting was at even. Mr. W. Coppings, of the "Queens Arms," Egerton, officiated as starter, Mr. D. S. Davies, of the "George Inn," was stakeholder, and Mr. E. Day of the "White Horse," Smarden was referee. Time 2-minutes 20 seconds.
