Duke of Wellington circa 1900

Above photo, circa 1900. Showing the "Duke of Wellington" with the sign hanging, and just to the right of the vehicle, the "Crown."

Duke of Wellington area 2010.

Above photo show the same shot taken in 2010.

I am informed that the buildings would have still looked much the same as the top photo by the 1930s where prostitutes still hung out plying for their trade outside the railings of the pub. All the buildings from the "Crown" to the house to the right of the "Duke of Wellington" were purchased by the Government in 1938 and demolished by the end of the second world war. Many mistakenly claim they were bombed, but records show they were demolished by the Royal Engineers. The licence from this was then transferred to a new "Duke of Wellington" addressed in Chatham.

I will be adding the historical information when I find or are sent it, but this project is a very big one, and I do not know when or where the information will come from.

All emails are answered.
