In 1858 when the Admiralty bought many of the pubs near the docks the license of the "Red Lion" near to the Marine Barracks was transferred to this one.

The Licensing Records of 1872 say the premises was operating a Full license and was owned by Joseph Gambrill of Frindsbury.

By 2008 the premises was operating as a motor cycle shop.
