The pub unfortunately closed in 2013 and is now a privately owned house and as of October 2014 the pub sign was still standing.

This pub is one in the list of my "Project 2014."

As such I have found a picture of the pub, but to date have no other information. Local knowledge, further pictures, and licensee information would be appreciated.

I will be adding the historical information when I find or are sent it, but this project is a very big one, and I do not know when or where the information will come from.

All emails are answered.

Kentish Gazette 30 April 1819.

On the following day an inquest was held at the "Swan," Sutton Valence, before the same Coriner (James Ottaway, Esq.), on view of the body of William Farmer, a very old man who had poisoned himself by drinking a large quantity of laudanum, on Tuesday morning. This was not the first time the deceased had attempted to destroy himself, and it appeared from the examination of several witnesses, that he had for some time being in a deranged state of mind. Before he died, the deceased had acknowledge that he had drunk 18 penny worth of laudanum, which he had purchased from two shops at Maidstone.

Verdict :- Insanity.
