I have reference to this pub from the Kentish Gazette or Canterbury Chronicle September 1768, when the paper advertised the sale of household furniture at Minster Abbey, on the Isle of Sheppey. It was stated that catalogues could be obtained from this public house. See Notes of 1768.

The building was probably built just before this date and has also been listed as the "Swan Inn" from an O.S. map of 1864. The map also shows the house next door, No. 62 to be part of the public house, although the "Red Lion" and "Swan" may have been run separately.

In the 1800s it was a meeting place for the local Freemasons.

From the Whitstable Times and Herne Bay Herald. 21 September 1867. Price 1d.

ANNUAL LICENSING DAY

The following applications for new licenses were heard:—  John Wood, "Red Lion," Sheerness; the application was refused.

This pub is one in the list of my "Project 2014."

As such I have found a picture of the pub, but to date have no other information. Local knowledge, further pictures, and licensee information would be appreciated.

I will be adding the historical information when I find or are sent it, but this project is a very big one, and I do not know when or where the information will come from.

All emails are answered.
