New inn gains star's approval.

A TOUCH of star quality marked the opening of a new pub and restaurant.

Actor Christopher Biggins, who starred in reality TV show I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here, was on hand to officially open Turners Inn and Restaurant in Woodnesborough.

Anita Turner

Co-owner Anita Turner said: "Christopher is a really friendly guy. He thoroughly enjoyed himself and has booked a table for Sunday lunch in a couple of weeks' time, with a bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape."

The opening party also featured a magic show and music from soul band Bones and Garnish.

The business was started by mum-of-two Anita Turner and husband and wife Don and Edwina Smith. It employs 10 people.

Miss Turner, who has managed pubs in London, said: "We feel it has lots of potential being so near to Sandwich. Don is an experienced builder and has been responsible for the renovation and will be renovating the upstairs to convert it into a bed and breakfast so we can attract people who want to stay in the area for a weekend."

Adding to the ambience, pictures for sale by local artists are displayed on a gallery wall and will be updated every couple of months.

It seems this public house didn't remain with the name of "Turners" for too long.

I have been informed by Annie Ballantyne that the pub reverted back to the original name of the "Charity Inn" again on 23 October 2009.
