According to the Deal History Society, of which I have only gained information from a web site at present, this "Royal Oak" is not to be confused with the other "Royal Oak" of Middle Street, and had this name in 1737, and used to be called the "Red Lion" in 1720. In 1769 it changed name again to the "Blue Bell."

However, another pub called the "Blewbore," has a name very similar to "Blue Bell" and may be confusing issues here, as it is said that the "Blewbore" became a "Royal Oak" as well.
