PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1740-

Red Lion

Latest 1740+

Woodnesborough

Only reference found so far is in the Wingham Division Ale Licence list, which shows the "Red Lion," Woodnesborough, to be re-licensed for the sum of 8 shillings in 1740 indicating that the pub was present before 1740.

A little confusion here though with another two "Red Lions" in Each End and Ash. Each End being almost exactly half way between the Woodnesborough and Ash. Perhaps all these houses are one and the same, perhaps not.

"Red Lion, Each End"

"Red Lion, Ash"

Further information leads me to believe the pub in question is the "Red Lion" at Each End, is it was mentioned in a Dover Express as being at Woodnesborough, but I know for a fact that the licensees were from Each End.
