Earliest 1791-

Red Herring

Latest 1791+

Pier District

Dover

Another of those pubs without any information, apart from the advert that appeared in the Kent Gazette in 1791. I can only assume that this was a public or beer house. Time will tell whether I find any more information regarding this establishment and whether or not indeed it is just a Red Herring.

Kentish Gazette, June 14 to 17, 1791. Kindly sent from Alec Hasenson.

Sale of a Cutter on 20th June, at Mrs. Johnstone's the sign of the Red Herring, at the Pier on Dover.

Alec Hasenson goes on to say:- "There are no red herrings here! The pub I mentioned really is a pub, not a boat!"
