Above photo, 1910, showing on the right hand side, No. 100 Gardiners
Stored, No 99. "White Horse," left side, No. 20-21 O. Checksfield, Baker
& Confectioner, No. 23 "North Kent." |
Above photo, circa 1924, kindly sent by Rory Kehoe. Until 1922, the pub
was one of about 125 pubs in East Kent (13 of them located in Faversham)
which were tied to W. E. & J. Rigden's Court Street Brewery, Faversham,
After Rigden's January 1922 merger with George Beer's Star Brewery,
Canterbury, their combined estate of about 250 tied houses was owned and
supplied by George Beer & Rigden's Brewery, Faversham and the Star
Brewery was closed. This photograph is almost certainly one of the
series commissioned by George Beer & Rigden showcasing all their pubs in
their new livery and signage. |

This pub has been traced back as far as 1855 to date, but closed some
time in the 1960s. It is now (2009) operating as the "Toacham House
Veterinary Surgery."
I have just added the pubs of Faversham after a visit to the hop festival
in 2012.
I will be adding further information as time allows, but with my site
getting ever larger, time spent on each pub is being watered down
unfortunately. Your information, photos, old or new and licensee names and
dates is much appreciated.
