Local sources say that the pub was first opened, as the "Horseshoe," in 1823 and the first licensee may have been the blacksmith, who owned the forge next door. They certainly were in 1858 and 1871, and it is suggested that this is how it got its name, but I'm not sure when it changed to having 4 shoes.

In the early years of the 20th century, the "Four Horse Shoes" was popular with cyclists, as it appears in a cycling guide to the local area. Since pulling its last pint and being sold, the former pub has traded as a physio-chiropractic  practice.

The pub closed around September 2013 and is undergoing alterations, as to what into, no information is known at present.

Latest information tells me in 2015 tells me it's going to be another private residence.
