This pub originally known as the "Railway Tavern," was built in 1865, opposite the station. It has been completely reconstructed and refurbished and now (2020) boasts a centre bar area and large conservatory.

The pub is named after famous the engineer Thomas Crampton, who built the nearby water tower and worked for Great Western Railway.
