DEATH OF AN EX-POLICE SERGEANT.

On Wednesdays evening last, after a protracted illness, the death occurred at the "Brewer's Inn," the Mall, of David Hoad. The deceased was for many years connected with the Kent County Constabulary, having joined the force as far back as 1860. His first station was Blean where he remained five years as a constable. Thence he was removed to St Peter's, Thanet, with the rank of corporal, where he also remained five years. Promoted to sergeant's rank his next station was Eynsford (Dartford Division). This position he held eight years and was ultimately removed to Cheriton in the Elham Division, whence, after a lengthy stay of 13 years he retired on first-class Sergeant's pension in June, 1891, having put in 31 years' conscientious duty in the force. The deceased, who was verging on 70 years of age, leaves a widow and family to mourn the loss of an affectionate husband and father.
