 Broad Street

13 November 1661 the house was leased to Ann Bowen of Deal.

From records held in Lambeth Palace Library.

The deeds are held under the TA references shown. The starred number is the number in the 19th century rentals held at Lambeth.

TA 357/1-24 *276.

From 1680 Lease to John Bowen on surrender from Ann Bowen whose lease was dated 1661, of the Fairfax. Leases to 1651 - no mention of when it stopped being an inn. Until 1791 it abutted a lane north, but in 1801 this was named as Broad Street (it had abutted Beach Street from 1680.)

I believe the premises later became the "Sandwich Arms," and from recent information received from Betty Macey, a relative of John Lawrence, I believe it must have been him who changed the name of the pub some time between 1858 and 1861.
