BACK EXTRA HISTORY Paul Skelton

Erby

From an email sent to me from Dawn Stebbings, 16 January, 2009.

I have just seen your website and was delighted to see two of my ancestors who were landlord and landlady during the 1800s.

They are John Erby (born1833 in Hampstead Norris, Berkshire) and Mrs Ann Erby (his wife)(born1831 in Ludgershall, Wiltshire).

John Erby worked as an agricultural labourer in Berkshire before becoming a railway porter and they finally the Licensed Victualler of the Kent Arms until his death in 1893 and I believe his wife Ann stayed as Licence Victualler until 1895. Ann died in 1908 still living in Dover.

I very much appreciated the photos on the website as I did try to find out some info a couple of years ago, but to no avail, so this was wonderful to see at last.

Thank you very much!
