Cinque Port Arms

Above shows a picture of the Cinque Port Arms which once stood opposite the Town Hall and pre-dated William Nethersole's wine vaults that were established in 1802.

David G Collyer was told that one landlord went for a walk one evening and didn't return for two years, after having been apprehended, en route, by the Press Gang.

From the Deal, Walmer & Sandwich Telegram, 24 May, 1867.

Auction of a messuage or tenament with Yard Garden and appurtenances situate and being No. 13 Market Street in Deal, known as the "Cinque Ports Arms" in the tenure of Stephen Reader White.

Next door to the "Cinque Port Arms" is listed "Druid's Arms" at number 12, but I have not seen this pub mentioned before 1867. I assume that as the "Cinque Port Arms" was sold, the "Druids Arms" opened having amalgamated with the house next door.

There is another "Cinque Port Arms, Walmer" I do believe Upper Deal and Lower Deal is right next to Walmer. Lower Deal being the closest to the sea.
