It is only known that W. Semen served here in 1854-55.

 

A token, value one farthing, by David Adamson, carried the words, "Anchor of Hope". It is not yet known whether this was the same establishment as above, but these tokens were usually distributed in the the mid 1600's.

The Dover Chronicles on 7 May 1842, printed a list of "Inns & Innkeepers of Dover A.D. 1713. Unfortunately no addresses were given.

From the Dover Telegraph, 24 February, 1855.

Sarah BLUNT, a prostitute, gave evidence in case of Wm SEAMAN landlord of “Anchor of Hope” pub Snargate Street, Dover, of knowingly harbouring improper characters at the pub. “The character of SEAMAN's house is well known” – he was warned and the case dismissed.
