David Chalk who runs the Littlebourne History Collection has recently found a document written circa 1949 relating to 30 High Street, passed on to him by a late resident of that premises.

The document says that during the late 19th and early 20th century, the building was used by a harness-maker and in the 1907s a hairdressers, but now (2026) a private house. However, the note also mentioned that about 200 years ago (1749ish) it was operating as a beer house called the "Queen's Head."

From the document.

Mrs. Hutson's Shop - also called Hair Design 58 High Street [written in 1949?]

About 200 years ago Mrs. Hutson's shop was an Ale house called the "Queen's Head" when Mrs. Hutson father had the shop over 60 years ago he found an old quit rent demand note for the "Queen's Head."

I helped Mrs. Hutson to dig some pits for Petrol Pumps in 1926 when we found a box of clay pipes and beer bottles etc. and the stool on which the beer barrels stood are still in the cellar.

After it ceased to be an ale house it became a Boarding School.
