17 Newtown Green Ashford
In 1847, the South Eastern Railway established a 185 acre "Locomotive Establishment" in Ashford, leading to the creation of Alfred Town, (now New Town) to house their workers. Built in 1866 for the engineers, fitters, and smiths employed at the nearby Ashford Railway Works as part of the South Eastern Railway's (SER) development of Alfred Town (now Newtown). Changed name to the "Alfred Arms" before 1881 so not to be confused with the other one. The other "Locomotive" is situated along the Beaver Road.
