29 Harnet Street Sandwich
This is now a Grade 2 listed building, having gained that status on 19th May 1950. The building itself going back to the 13th century when it was said to have been an Inn known as the "Haven." Today 2026, it is operating as a guest house still called the Haven Guest House. The building was originally constructed as a pilgrims' hostel. It comprises several medieval structures that have been unified and modernized over the centuries. The house is famously the home of the award-winning British novelist Jane Gardam, who has lived there since 1987. She has often described her workroom in the "very old house," noting features like wattle and daub walls and a midget window looking onto a garden allegedly haunted by a wandering monk.
