Above postcard, circa 1938, kindly sent by Rory Kehoe. Looking at the architecture, it seems likely that Charles Beasley's Plumstead Brewery, had the old pub demolished in the 1930s and replaced with a more modern, roadhouse-style building.

I have also seen this addressed as East Wickham.

The original building was built in 1868 by local brewery Beasley's of Plumstead.

This was replaced by the building we see here today from between 1937 and 1939, and owners in 1975, Watney's, considered closing it. The following year 1976 it was purchased and reopened as a Freehouse.

On 1st July 2024 it was again sold and purchased by the Greenman (Welling) Ltd, a private limited company.

Today (2026) the premises consists of a two bar layout, the front of which is considered to be the public bar and the back the saloon, this still retains its original dark brown fielded panelling up to three quarters height, brass name panels on the doors and a brick-built fireplace and the original bar counter featuring a rectangular panelled front and linoleum inlay.
