George Fortline was listed as a brewer and beer retailer in 1829 and 1832 trade directories. What his home brew pub was actually called isn't yet known, so Fortline's will have to do for now. A later, undated, reference lists Matilda Reel trading at the same address as a brewer and baker. The premises later served as a bakery and shop, run by Alfred Ernest Ostler, with the only dated reference being 1917, which is roughly when the attached photo was taken. The location of No.35 (TBC) was most likely just before the Watling Street junction with St. John's Lane, now renamed Marlowe Avenue.
