From the Maidstone Journal, 5 June 1787.

This is to give notice, that Mr. Thomas Chapman, Cutler, Linstead, intends giving on Wednesday the 13th of June, at Mr. Thomas Coulter's, at the "Blue Anchor" in Linstead, a lamb roasted whole, and a Bushel of Flower, to be made into Plumb Cakes; at the same time there is to be played in Linstead Park, a match of Stool Ball, by the woman of Eastling, Newnham, Dodington, and Linfield, against any party that think proper to play with them, when Mr. Crayman will fix the time and place where the returned match is to be played.

A ball in the evening.
