32-34 Earl Street Maidstone
Situated next to the "Market House" at 30 Earl Street. By 2009 this was operating as the Pizza Express. Kelly's directory of 1927 indicates that it was the premises of the Mid Kent Conservative Club. The building, according to the stone on the 1st floor says the building was built in 1883, the stone being laid on 9th February of that year. The building gained a Grade 2 listing on 3 February 1989. Les Swaffer tells me this was the home of Andrew Boughton. He was the Mayor of Maidstone and a Member of Parliament. He sighed the proclamation to have the King Charles 1 executed in 1649 and read it out in parliament.
