Greenwich

Jacqueline Davies kindly writes to me who says she is interested in 17th century Greenwich and has been doing research from sources including a survey of East Greenwich Manor in a document titled "A survey of the Kings Lordship or Manor of East Greenwich in the County of Kent made by Samuel Travers 1695-97."

She kindly sends me the following information:- The "Bull" held by Andrew Elton (In 1664 an Anthony Elton taxed on 2 hearth property East of High Street; too small for a pub). Reference also made to the Bull’s Head Tavern, newly built putting two properties together in Rood Lane (West of the Palace).

Further information seems to suggest that the "Bulls head" and "Buffalos Head" may well be the same premises, due to the handwriting on a early documents found.

Bulls Head document

Above attachment seems to be a hybrid of those two:

Bulls Head but in Church Street, here it's called Bulls Hed and the Landlord Joseph Thredkill or Threllkell (spelling is never a strong point in these old records!) but likely Threllkell by which he was buried in 1711 (a Vintner)

Bull's Head document

The burial of two of his daughters:

4 Aug 1699 Abigall dau of Joseph Thredkill vintner at the Bull Hed Tavarn in Church Street.

18 Nov 1701 Martha dau of Joseph Threllkell vintner at the Bull Hed Tavarn, in Church Street.
