Lawrie Herron says heI was the first manager of the "Jolly Marshman" with his wife Sylvia, from 1966 to 1968, so I believe this is when the pub first served customers. It was owned by the St. George's taverns, who were the managerial side of Watneys brewery, They lived in the flat above, with one daughter and two dogs, it was a friendly family pub, They left the "Jolly Marshman" to go to Australia and are now retired and living in Sussex.
The What Pub Website says this is permanently closed, and was demolished in 2012. At the time of closure I have seen reports that it was a bit rough. That's the latest I have traced it at present, so local knowledge very welcome.
