PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1778

Four Bells

Latest 1778-

(Name to)

Stowting

The pub changed name from the "Chequer" in 1778 in reference to the number of bells hanging in the Stowting church. The pub changed name again to the "Anchor," when the building was bought by Henry and William Mackeson on 26 May 1802 for the sum of £300.

However, I have found reference to the pub being known as the "Anchor" in 1778, so perhaps this was the year it changed name and not when Mackeson bought the building.
