Situated in the former John Angell building, and operated by the team from the "Halfway House" in Brenchley. The ground floor is more like a micro pub whilst up stairs operates more like an off-licence called the Hidden Cellar Shop.

The owners of the Halfway House are planning to open a new pub on Tonbridge High Street.

The pub will replace the vacant site of John Angell’s jewellers.

The vacant John Angell site in Tonbridge High Street is set to be turned into a pub.

The jewellers ceased trading mid-way through last year, before being purchased by new owners.

The prospective tenant is Beer Seller Ltd, which currently runs "Halfway House" in Brenchley.

The "Halfway House" has built up a name for itself locally thanks to its well-kept real ales served straight from the barrel.

The plans for the new Tonbridge venture say: “[They] have been looking for a suitable location for a second establishment for some time.

"They feel that this location is ideal for a successful bar facility for shoppers, office workers and the general public visiting the High Street and travellers using the station.

“The site is typical of similar commercial in High Street locations, the building has been vacant for almost a year and, despite active marketing by local agents, there are no commercial companies willing to occupy these premises.

“Their trading hours would be 9am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and Sunday 11am to 10.30pm.

“The 9am weekday start will enable a facility to serve coffees and teas and breakfast facilities, if so required."

"It is with a heavy heart and deep regret to let you know that unfortunately The Beer Seller is closing its doors immediately.

Unfortunately we never managed to recover from the impact of covid and the knock on effects it has had on our pub.

We want to thank all of our amazing customers and awesome suppliers for your support over the past four years and of course our brilliant team. There have been many special days and nights in here that will never be forgotten.
