I don't think this ever had a drinks license, but I'm adding it to the list of Folkestone anyway.

John Turner has kindly submitted the following information regarding Charles Schmitt.

1881 Census states:- Victoria Hotel, Bridge Street, Bradford, Christian SCHMITT, Servant, Single, 29, Cook. Born: Germany, Frankfurt am Main.

At the time of his Marriage on 15 July 1882 in Folkestone, to the gloriously named Marie Marguerite Adolphine WAMPACH (included in the photo), his occupation is given as "Chef" and his address as "Victoria Hotel", Bradford, West Yorkshire. He signs his name as Christian Schmitt omitting the Charles altogether.

At the time of William's birth, he was living at 40, Port Street, Manchester. His occupation is given as Restorant Keeper.

1891 Census states:- 12, Clifton Crescent, Folkestone, Kent, Charles C SCHMITT, Head, Married, 39, Boarding House Keeper. Born: Germany.

1901 Census states:- 19, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone, Kent, (Schmitts Hotel), Charles C SCHMITT, Head, Married, 49, Hotel Keeper. Born: Germany (German Subject).

According to records at Kew, Charles was naturalised on 6 Mar 1903. Certificate 13266.

He was a resident at 19, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone at the time of his death - described as Boarding House Keeper.

Death registered on 7 Mar 1910 by C C Wampach, Brother-in-Law who was present at the death."
