I also have reference to another "Rose" addressed in Sutton Valence, which may well refer to this pub. It is not to be confused to the "Rose" at Boughton Monchelsea.

The Courier, 10 March, 1905.

The Rose Inn, Loose.

Mr. Bracher applied for the renewal of the licence of the above "off" beer house.

Police Sergeant Picknall said the house in question was situated on the main road from Maidstone to Linton. There was a general shop attached. It was 128 yards from me "Walnut Tree," and 230 yards from the "Kings Arms." The house was in excess of the requirements of the district.

Mr. Thomas Golding, the tenant, said he had occupied the premises for 13 years and a half; he carried on a general store and held an "off" licence. Since the passing of the Child Messenger Act he had refused to sell liquor to children at all. He handed in a petition asking the Bench to allow the renewal this being signed by the Vicar (Rev. Gardiner Waterman), a Churchwarden, all the Overseers, Mr. McAlpine, Vice-Chairman of the Parish Council, and some 40 or 50 others. Witness's trade was about a barrel a week.

The decisions.

After a retirement of nearly three quarters of an hour, the Chairman announced the Magistrates decisions as follows:- The "Rose," Loose, refused.
