Maidstone Telegraph, Rochester and Chatham Gazette, Saturday 4th August 1860.

A match of cricket was played yesterday (Friday) at Boxley, between the publicans and beershop keepers of Maidstone, kindly invited by Mr. T. H. Spencer of the Abbey Brewery, Boxley. The Licensed Victuallers proved to be victorious. There was some excellent play on both sides, the batting exceedingly good, that of Mr. H Usmar, of the "Jolly Butcher," Week Street, being greatly applauded. After the game was played, a splendid repast was provided, to which ample justice was done, both sides having a first-rate innings. The toast and song passed the evening away and the parties separated highly delighted with their days sport.
