Camden Arms 1932

Above photo, circa 1932, showing the livery of Frederick Leney's Phoenix Brewery, Wateringbury. Kindly sent by Rory Kehoe, by kind permission of Peter Williams.

This image is almost certainly part of the series commissioned by Leney's (since 1927 part of Whitbread's) to record their newly-enlarged tied estate. This incorporated Leney's pre-1927 pubs, 13 houses acquired in 1928 when Leney's bought Sharpe & Winch's Cranbrook brewery and the mid-Kent estate of Jude, Hanbury's brewery, formerly of Wateringbury, which Whitbread had purchased in 1929.

Local knowledge, further pictures, and licensee information would be appreciated.

I will be adding the historical information when I find or are sent it, but this project is a very big one, and I do not know when or where the information will come from.

All emails are answered.
