PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1790-

Black Horse

Latest 1901+

Keston

Only two instances of this pub found at present, however, there is another "Black Horse" that is situated in Locksbottom, which may be this pub or indeed a "Black Horse" at Biggin Hill, which is more likely as it is said to be in the parish of Keston.

From the Maidstone Journal, 20 April 1790.

A few days ago a fire happened at the sign of the "Black Horse," Alehouse, at Biggin Hill, in the parish of Keston, in this county (not far from Mr. Pitts house at Hollywood Hill;) it broke out in the daytime, when only the landlord was in the house, and the wind unfortunately being very high, the whole was in a short time reduced to ashes, together with all the household furniture, stock of liquors, beer, &c, nothing being saved.

From the Bromley and District Times, Friday 16 August, 1889.

At the "Black Horse," Keston, George Mitchell was summonsed for drunkenness and disorderly conduct at Keston.

Police constable Barnes stated that the defendant was ejected from the "Black Horse Inn" and at once became noisy and abusive, as he took him into custody. The defendant argued in extenuation of the offence that he was sober when he entered the house.

The Bench fined him 10s. and 2. 6d. costs.
