PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton & Rory Kehoe

Earliest 1693-

Angel

Latest 1824+

(Name to)

20 Northgate Lane

Canterbury

I have only found reference to this from the Pigot's Directory of 1824.

Angel, 20 North Lane. Mentioned in 1692 (Ebblewaite's List) and in 1693 as billeting for 4 soldiers. Flint's Brewery papers (undated but likely to be circa 1830,) note that the Angel's name was changed to the (King) "William IV."

Kentish Gazette 26 November 1819.

On Saturday night the outbuildings at the "Angel" public house, in North Lane, Canterbury, were broken into, and some poultry stolen therefrom; and on Monday night attempts were made to break into the "Bricklayers Arms," Best Lane, in this city, but happily the object of the plunderers was defeated.
