This house was shown in a list of public houses said to be open in the first 25 years of the 18th century, as mentioned in an article by the Sevenoaks Chronicle and Kentish Advertiser, 23 January, 1903. At present, no other information is known accept that the pub closed in about 1723.

Further research suggests that the pub was named after the original six bell peal at nearby St. Nicholas Tower, and giving its name to the lane alongside.

In the early 20th century it was operating as Raley's Tea Rooms, served from the old Bakehouse to the rear. It is now (2020) home to Craig Violins.
