Unfortunately the 1870 application for a spirit license didn't give the name of the house. However, the Maidstone Journal and Kentish Advertiser, Thursday 10 September 1896 in the superintendents report, mentions a "Greyhound" beer-house at Wychling, and I am going to say that this is it.

Not sure when it closed yet, but

Maidstone Telegraph, Saturday 10 September 1870.

Application for a spirit licence.

Mr. Monckton applied on behalf of Mrs. Caroline Wellfear, for a spirit licence for a beer house situated at Bunkers Hill, in the parish of Wychling.

Mr. Stevenson opposed on behalf of the landlord of the "Harrow" public house.

Mr. Monckton produced a memorial in favour of the application, and called applicant who stated that the house had been used as a beer house for 16 years, and was a mile from the nearest public house, the "Harrow."

Examined by Mr. Stevenson:- There was a row at her house and a watch was alleged to have been stolen. She did not keep dice.

Superintendent Ovenden deposed that he several times sent a constable to applicant's house, but he had never been able to detect the slightest irregularity.

Mr. Payne examined by Mr. Stevenson depose that he was landlord of the "Harrow" which was situate only about a quarter of a mile from the applicants house. There were only three houses between his and applicants house.

The magistrates retired to consult and on their return said they had decided not to grant the licence.

From the Maidstone Journal and Kentish Advertiser, Thursday 10 September 1896.

BEARSTEAD BREWSTER SESSIONS.

The superintendents report.

Superintendent Johnson presented his report on the licensed houses of the division. This showed that during the past year 3 licence holders have been convicted of offences against their licences, viz., Edward Collins, landlord of the "Bull," Lenham Heath; Alfred Walden, landlord of the "Greyhound" beer house, Wychling; and Alfred Roberts, landlord of the "Pig and Whistle," Boughton Malherbe. In the last case the licence had since been transferred.
