Whitstable's latest bar The Twelve Taps to open on Friday.

The "Twelve Taps" will join the town's scene as a bar and coffee house, joining the likes of the "Handsome Sam" on Canterbury Road, the "Black Dog" in the High Street and the "Tankerton Arms" in Tankerton Road.

The new bar has replaced what was the Shangri-La Thai restaurant and it is going to be run by the owners of the town's former Kentish food store Waltshaws'.

The "Twelve Taps" is opening just in time for the long Easter weekend and it will have 12 beers on tap. It will also serve Prosecco and a wide range of coffee.

Back in January, Waltshaws' announced it was moving from its old premises in Harbour Street to the former Thai restaurant after a successful three years in the town.

Waltshaws' stopped trading at Christmas and refurbishment work at Shangri-La has been carried out since.

This week, The Twelve Taps has been sharing pictures and posts on Twitter to let customers know when it is opening.

The "Twelve Taps" is a bar that serves coffee by day and craft beer, wine and gin in the evening. Founded by Becca and Libby who ran Waltshaws’ on Harbour Street in Whitstable between 2013-2015.

Pastries will be available during the day to accompany the coffee, and bar snacks will be available in the evening. We are working towards providing a more substantial yet simple food offering but for the first couple of weeks The Twelve Taps is a place to get excellent drinks.

Well behaved dogs and children are welcome (children until 6pm). The "Twelve Taps" is a grown-up space designed for people to enjoy the best drinks available and we ask all customers to respect that.

The 33 pubs in Kent you have to drink at in 2020 according to CAMRA.

In total Kent has heaps of pubs listed in the guide and, while 33 of these are new entries, others have appeared in previous editions of the guide.

A total of 33 pubs from around Kent make up the new entries that feature in the 2020 edition of the Good Beer Guide.

The guide is produced annually by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), the independent guide to the best boozers in the UK that is researched by unpaid and independent volunteers nationwide.

Tom Stainer, CAMRA’s chief executive, said: “For nearly five decades, the Good Beer Guide has been a comprehensive guide to the UK’s breweries, their ales, and the best outlets to find them in across the country.

“What makes the Guide unique is that all the entries are compiled and vetted by a huge volunteer team, based around the country. We work hard to ensure that all areas of the country are covered and, unlike with some competitor titles, inclusion in this book is dependent only on merit, not on payment.

“The Good Beer Guide has always had an important role in acting as a barometer of the beer and pub industry. We believe information gleaned from the Guide is absolutely vital in the drive to save our pubs from closure and campaign for policies that better support pubs, local brewers and their customers.”

This pub is included in the 2020 list.

Twelve Taps, Whitstable.

What the guide says: "A craft beer bar decorated in warm colours, with wooden floors and a pleasant suntrap courtyard, serving KeyKeg beers conforming with CAMRA’s definition of real ale.

"Try a sample paddle of three beers to find your favourites."
