Other information found suggests the pub was trading under this name from between 1866 and 1871. However, reference has been found in the census of 1851 where the proprietor was described as a miller and Beer Shop Keeper at a premises with this name.

It is believed the house was built on the foundations of another pub called the "Good Intent."
